Lanterns are Valor Mortis's bonfires: rekindle one to rest, restore Health and Nephtoglobin, and unlock it as a fast-travel destination — at the cost of reviving every non-boss enemy.

The Battlefield

L01

A wasteland of death where the clash of armies has left no life untouched. French and Russian corpses lie strewn as far as the eye can see, mingled in a grotesque mosaic of torn uniforms and shattered muskets. This might be a testament to Napoleonic failure, and yet, the banner of the Empire still stands defiantly among the ruin. Scarred, drenched in crimson, as if mocking the dead beneath it.

The Outskirts

L07

The outskirts of the city and the bridge that leads to them lie nearly obliterated by the immense force of Nephtoglobin, a horrifying testament to its power. Yet the plague was not the only hand in their fall... Anti-Napoleonic propaganda, left by forces of the Shrike, covers the shattered walls. The fighting here was fierce; the city resisted long, but in the end, it yielded. In the distance shines a glimmer of hope - the lighthouse - but who can say how long it will endure?

The first island in the outskirts is alive with whispers and the faint echo of footsteps. Someone has survived here, though unseen. Whoever it is, they know how to remain invisible, moving like a shadow amid the ruins. Yet their devotion isn't hidden - symbols of the Shrike are carved and left out in the open, as if their creator were proud to show the world who they believe in.
